200 Years of Delaware County Heritage!

In July, Delaware will not only celebrate our nation's Independence Day, but also the City of Delaware's 200th birthday! The Delaware Optimist Club is helping in the planning and organization of this monumental event.

The parade will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008. The date choice was made in order to allow the communities in Delaware County to hold their own 4th of July parades and celebrations on July 4th, then join the Delaware Parade on the 5th.

Bicentennial Parade Registration

Participation and participation in the parade is free, however, all units must be registered. Those wishing to sign up should use the Bicentennial Parade Entry Form. Mail the completed form to the Optimist Club at the address listed on the form by June 25th.

Due to the anticipated size of the parade, please make every effort to register ahead of time. Attempting to register the day of the parade will slow things down and may prevent some participants from being judged if they are not able to get through registration quickly enough.

Judging and Awards

Participants must be signed in at the Delaware Fairgrounds at the Main Entrance off Pennsylvania Avenue between 9:00 am and 11: 00 am, even if they have pre-regsitered. To be judged, participants must be in their assigned places by 11:00 a.m. The parade will step off at 1:00 p.m. from the Delaware County Fairgrounds.

Awards will be given in categories such as noncommercial float, horse-pulled units, antique cars, costumed or comedy, fire trucks, and youth. Each entry will have to declare itself in one of the following four era sections of the parade:

  • Pioneer Days (1808-1907)
  • Patriotic Days (1908-1957)
  • Growth of Delaware (1958-2007)
  • Future (2008 +)

Your Help is Needed!

  • 6 - Cars
  • 9 - Horse Entries
  • 3 - Bands
  • 6 - Trucks/Tractors
  • 12 - Best of Parade, Most Patriotic and Best of Youth

Many of these entries will receive trophies for their award.

Please contact us with any assistance you may be able to provide.
